Motion to Amend Bylaws – Officer Term

WHEREAS, the committee desires to increase the length of the term for officers to facilitate increased productivity and to reduce the amount of time spent on elections; and

WHEREAS, a suggestion has been made to limit the number of consecutive terms for officers; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the AAC Bylaws be amended as follows:

1)  Section 3.01 – Chairperson

A Chairperson shall be elected from the membership of the Committee.  The Chairperson shall serve for a one-year three-year term, with no term limitations, beginning at the fall meeting. The Chairperson shall preside over all meetings; shall represent the Committee as needed; shall establish rules of the meeting that will freely facilitate debate and decision-making; and shall indicate when a vote will be taken.

2)  Section 3.01 – Chairperson

A Chairperson shall be elected from the membership of the Committee.  The Chairperson shall serve for a one-year term, with no term limitations a consecutive term limitation of two [or three] terms, beginning at the fall meeting. 3)  Section 3.2 – Vice-Chairperson

A Vice-Chairperson shall be elected from the membership of the Committee.  The Vice-Chairperson shall serve for a one-year three-year term, with no term limitations, beginning at the fall meeting.  In the event of a vacancy in the Chairperson’s position, the Vice-Chairperson will succeed as Chairperson for the remainder of the Chairperson’s term, and the Committee shall elect a new Vice-Chairperson.  The Vice-Chairperson shall preside at meetings in the absence of the Chairperson and shall represent the Committee as needed.

4)  Section 3.02 – Vice-Chairperson

A Vice-Chairperson shall be elected from the membership of the Committee.  The Vice-Chairperson shall serve for a one-year term, with no term limitations a consecutive term limitation of two [or three] terms, beginning at the fall meeting.  In the event of a vacancy in the Chairperson’s position, the Vice-Chairperson will succeed as Chairperson for the remainder of the Chairperson’s term, and the Committee shall elect a new Vice-Chairperson.  The Vice-Chairperson shall preside at meetings in the absence of the Chairperson and shall represent the Committee as needed.

  1. We will discuss this during the early meeting and vote when the item comes up on the agenda in the afternoon meeting.  We need to decide whether we want terms to be 2 or 3 years, and also whether we want term limitations, and if so, how many consecutive terms.  Please make comments below, or be prepared to comment at the meeting.  In my understanding, the committee has pretty much agreed in principle to make the term longer, and only a suggestion was made to possibly implement a consecutive term limit.

  3. Committee agreed in priciple during the early meeting to approve tems 1 and 3; a three-year term with no limitations.

  4. Committee adopted items 1 and 3 during the formal meeting. Bylaws were updated 11/4/2012.
