Motion to Amend Bylaws – Authorization of Online Meetings

I am not sure the bylaws specifically authorize online meetings.  In order to make it perfectly clear, I move that we amend Section 4.01 – Regular Meetings of the bylaws as follows:

Regular meetings of the Committee may be held twice a year, once during the fall semester and once during the spring semester of the academic year.  Participation in the meeting may be in person, via a conference call or the internet.  Participation of Members shall be mandatory and recorded.  All meetings are open to the public, and may be held online.

Committee vote yea or nay please (thumbs up or thumbs down)

Bylaws require minimum thirty days prior notice of proposed amendments to the bylaws.  If we do not get the votes now, I will add it to the fall agenda.  A majority of the total committee membership must approve this change.

  1. Last sentence for motion to amend Bylaws Section 4.01 . . . “Mandatory” is too strong as used.  Suggest it read similar to the following;
    A quorum of the Committee participating is mandatory in all such meeting for committee actions to be official.

    • I agree Ken.  That is not the part of was amending, but I think you have a good point.  I would support striking “Participation of Members shall be mandatory and recorded.” and replacing it with “A quorum of the Committee participating is mandatory in all such meeting for committee actions to be official.”  I am not sure how the thumbs voting is going to work out, but lets just try it.  If you support both changes, click thumbs up on this comment.  If not, click thumbs down and leave a response.

  3. OK, though all the votes don’t appear here, we do have 4 yea votes to amend the bylaws, so the motion passes.  I will make the following changes to the bylaws as noted above, and update the website:

    Regular meetings of the Committee may be held twice a year, once during the fall semester and once during the spring semester of the academic year.  Participation in the meeting may be in person, via a conference call or the internet.  Participation of Members shall be mandatory and recorded.  A quorum of the Committee participating is mandatory in all such meetings for committee actions to be official. All meetings are open to the public and may be held online.

  4. The yeas have it, the bylaws will be amended as described above. For recording purposes, this thread has been closed to future comments.
